Why We Picked a Website

There are numerous moral issues in society today.  These issues include everything from the use of illegal drugs and the death penalty, to immigration and child labor.  These issues affect everyone in some way, whether directly or indirectly.  Because of this, people everywhere must decide the rightness or wrongness of these issues and decide what actions they must take to rectify them.  In our Issue Assessment project, we also focused on a moral issue and chose what steps we felt were necessary in order to fix it.  The topic we chose for our project is the presence of sweatshops throughout the world.  However, instead of taking the usual route of writing a paper, we decided to create a website.

We decided to create a website for a variety of reasons.  One reason is that the visual aids available on a website really help a reader to come to a better understanding of the subject.  By providing such things as pictures and videos, the reader becomes more emotionally involved since they get to see what a situation is like for themselves instead of merely reading about it. Another reason is that reading a lengthy paper can become tiring, especially for students.  In today’s society, everyone is on the computer constantly.  A website is just a more modern way of allowing readers to learn about something while being entertained at the same time.  A final reason why we chose a website is that it is a fast and easy way to spread information.  A paper is usually only read by a few people but a website is available for a much larger proportion of the population to see.  Clearly, a website is an excellent option for the presentation of our material.

It took many attempts, but we finally came to a joint conclusion on the structure of the website.  We felt that since sweatshops are such a serious issue, it would be best to have a serious and professional appearance to the website. We also felt that providing pictures, videos, and graphs would help to add the needed decoration while providing extra information at the same time.  Finally, we decided that separating each topic into a separate tab would help to make the website much more organized and easier for readers to follow.  Overall, we hoped to make a well-organized and professional learning environment that would keep readers interested in the subject and lead them to want to learn more.

In conclusion, for our final project we decided to do a website about sweatshops.  We wanted to make a visually entertaining, yet informational site to teach others about the horrors of sweatshops.  We felt that websites were appropriate since our intended audience was our fellow college students who are part of a generation of technology.  With the vast increase in technology, people are spending a greater deal of time on the internet.  With a website, we can reach more people and hopefully spread the information.  We hope that people both enjoy our website and learn from it.
