The first step of our project is to "see" the issue.  The word "see" means to "perceive by sight" (wordnetweb).  However, not only did we have to simply see the issue, we also had to delve into it and explore it in great detail.  We researched it and came to an better understanding of what the situation truly is.

What is a sweatshop?  The definition of a sweatshop is a “factory where workers do piecework for poor pay and are prevented from forming unions” (wordnetweb).  Workers are often forced to work long hours with very little pay.  Often, child labor laws are also violated in such places.  Sweatshops are not exclusive to one area in the world.  They are found in many different places, such as China, Jordan, Honduras, and even the United States.  Sweatshops are also used by a variety of companies supplying  many different goods, such as Nike, Reebok, Adidas, American Apparel, Abercrombie & Fitch, L.L. Bean, Gap, Gymboree, Hanes, and Burberry.  By reading numerous newspaper articles and websites, we attempted to learn more about what sweatshops are actually like.  We discovered that three key issues concerning sweatshops were the pay and working conditions, abuses of workers, and immoral actions done by employers.
